History

The racecourse at Southwell has been around since as long ago as 1850

In 1886, the racecourse had its first grandstand, although riding conditions were difficult. However, in 1897 it was decided a new track was to be made and almost seventy years later a new enclosure stand was built and opened in 1965. The track became all weather in 1989, which is also the year Southwell held an all-weather National Hunt meeting for the first time.
